Thomas McKinnon arrives from the USA. Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of 22 year old defender Thomas McKinnon for the forthcoming season. Scottish born McKinnon, who will wear the number 84 shirt, has joined the team having recently played in the Federal Hockey League (FHL) in the USA for Mentor Ice Breakers who are based in Ohio. McKinnon played his junior hockey in the Scottish National League before moving to North America and therefore does not count as an import.
Thomas commented, “I’m really excited to get the season underway and get going, I’m looking forward to a new adventure with a winning team, hoping to grow and learn as a player under the Tigers’ management.”
Tom Watkins, Head Coach and General Manager, said, “I’m looking forward to working with Thomas. He cares, works and battles hard. He’s in good shape and has a good hockey sense. He will add some more quality to our defensive core and I expect him to contribute heavily to the team’s success on the back end. He’s played abroad the last few years which will have helped him develop as he will have had to play at a competitive level every shift.
I spoke at length with former Tigers’ player Rob Stewart (Belfast Giants Assistant Coach) who had good things to say about Thomas and recommended him. He played a couple of pre-season games with the Giants three seasons ago before he went back to Canada and I believe he is skating with Belfast through August also.”
Thomas’ #84 own and loan shirts are available to order now for £100 each (Home and Away). Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
In the 2019/20 season, Tigers are again offering individual player sponsorship at £400. The package will include a personalised ‘SPECIAL’ exclusive third jersey with a company name or family name patch, announcements on match nights, a small advert or logo in the match night programmes and a signed player photo. The jersey will be worn for cup games and play-off games and will not be available as a replica.
