Saturday 20th January sees Telford Tigers 1 play the 2nd leg of the quarter final NIHL National Cup against Streatham IHC from London.
This will be first competitive fixture between the two teams in Telford since 1989 and Tom Watkins, Telford Tigers head coach and General Manager said “The first leg was all about learning about each other, Streatham play the right way, they roll their lines, they work hard, they’re quick, they’re tenacious, and they finish their hits. I was impressed by them, for sure. It was a close game at their place and they kept putting us on the back foot and hemming us in our zone.”
The tie is by no means over, in fact it is only half time with Tigers holding a slim 5-2 advantage going in to the game, but anything can happen in Ice Hockey especially as the tie will be decided by aggregate score over the two legs.
Doors at Telford Ice Rink will open at 4:50pm and tickets are still available on the door. Face off is 5:30pm tomorrow and it’s expected to be a wonderful atmosphere with Streatham bringing a healthy following with them.
Telford Tigers have also added Nick Oliver to the defensive line-up for the remainder of the season. Local Telford youngster Nick Oliver has recently returned to the UK full time and was looking to continue his hockey.
Coach Watkins said “I believe Nick hasn’t skated in anger since last March so will take some time to get up to speed at this point in the season, but we are pleased to add him to our roster to add some depth to our team. He has skated with the team this week at practice and will be in the line-up Saturday. “
