It is with great regret that the Hexagon sponsored Telford Tigers have to announce that Canadian forward Dougie Clarkson #93 bids farewell and will be leaving the Tigers on Monday the 25th February for personal reasons.
Doug who has been a massive hit with the fans and team alike during this season, had the following to say ‘This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I know how hard Tommy (Tom Watkins) worked to get me here and the investments from the sponsors. But this has been a tough year mentally and physically and I made a decision earlier in the season that if I got a job offer back home I would take it, and that is what has happened. When I chose to come back and play, away from my family, I only wanted to come to Telford. Other teams in the league and other countries were options but I only wanted to come back to play with this group, fans and sponsors. I have been very lucky to play where I have and have had the career I have had, and I have met some amazing people and made great friends along the way. It’s been a privilege to wear that Tigers jersey and to compete with this group for another year. But it’s time to finally start my second career back home with my family. Thanks to all the fans, sponsors and teammates for everything.’
Tom Watkins, Head Coach and General manager said “Doug has been playing through his notice for a few weeks now after informing us he is heading home for personal reasons. It certainly came as a shock and is a blow for the team which leaves a big a hole. But, as a team we will come together to collectively fill that gap.”
Doug leaves the team with our best wishes for the future and we really hope to see him back in Telford Ice Rink in the future as a fan during his travels.
Doug’s last home game will be against Blackburn Hawks on Saturday 23rd February and his final game in a Tigers shirt will be away in Nottingham on Sunday 24th Feb. Don’t miss your chance to get your tickets for his final home game.
