Last weekend saw Head Coach Tom Watkins reach the milestone of steering his 800th game in charge of the Telford Tigers, and with that achievement comes the dawn of a whole new century of games under his watch.
Since joining the organisation, Tom has become synonymous with Telford Tigers, leading the club through some of its most successful years both on and off the ice. Under his guidance, Telford Tigers have captured multiple league and cup titles, developed homegrown talent, and built a strong foundation for sustained success.
His influence, however, extends beyond silverware. Watkins has helped nurture and elevate homegrown talent, while maintaining competitiveness at the national level in the NIHL. His name is now firmly etched among British ice hockey’s most long-serving and successful coaches.
Speaking on reaching the milestone, Watkins reflected on his journey with the club:
“It’s a number I hadn’t really thought about until someone mentioned it last week. When you take a step back, 800 games is a lot of bus journeys, a lot of ice time, and a lot of memories. I’ve been fortunate to work with some fantastic players, staff, and volunteers over the years, it’s a real team effort and I’m proud to be part of a club that means so much to so many people.”
Club Chairman Mike Washburn paid tribute to Watkins’ contribution:

Now entering a new century of games, Watkins remains as focused as ever on pushing the team forward. With another exciting season underway, his experience and drive will continue to play a crucial role in the club’s pursuit of success.
