Telford Tigers are pleased to announce that Liam Bartholomew will be returning to Telford Tigers 2 for the 2023/24 season.
As the recipient of the Telford Tigers 2 Coach’s Player Award, last season, the 21-year old has not only proven his exceptional skills on both offensive and defensive fronts but also their invaluable contributions to the team’s success.
Bartholomew or ‘Barts’ as he’s known as, made the move to Telford after playing through the junior set up in Coventry. He made his senior Tigers debut during the 2018/19 season whilst also icing for the junior U18 squad for Telford.
Since then, he has been an asset to the team, seamlessly transitioning between offensive and defensive play. Last season he secured a personal best where he picked up a respectable 23 points in 28 games. The youngster has also been seen occasionally stepping up and playing for the National Telford Tigers side.
Once again this season, Bartholomew will be seen wearing the number 51 jersey for Telford Tigers 2.
We caught up with Liam ahead of his return.
This is your fifth season with Telford Tigers, how does it feel to be back for the 2023/24 season?
“Well, it’s fantastic to be back with the lads and the fans. They are and have been amazing. Let’s smash this season.”
You played up and down the lineup last season in both forward and defence, where do you see yourself this season?
“I am always happy to help out where it’s needed the most, Forward is my thing but also being able to defend helps everyone and that’s what a team is all about.”
How do you strike a balance between your offensive and Defensive responsibilities on the ice?
“Keeping my fitness up helps when I’m playing forward. I always make sure I’m on my toes to get back to defend and when I do play in defence I’m ready to protect the goal and goalie.”
Returning for a new season comes with excitement and challenges. What are you most looking forward to, and what are your concerns or areas of focus?
“Being back on the ice with the lads and fans and doing a sport I enjoy hopefully adding more goals this season than last.”
You have played a part in Tigers 2’s biggest seasons recently, winning the 2022 league title and 2023 League Cup and Playoff titles. How did it feel to be part of that winning team?
“It felt unbelievable 🎉 We are a team and work as a team. Let’s have all three this year.”
Are there any particular parts of your game that you are looking to improve on heading into the season?
“Continuing to contribute points and hitting the goal more often whilst hearing the amazing fans behind us every game.”
Finally, what message would you like to send to your fans who are eagerly anticipating your return to the ice for the new season?
“Thank you so much for your support the last few seasons, KEEP IT LOUD as it all helps us to smash the season. I’ve never been a man of many words…”
Scott McKenzie, Telford Tigers 2 Head Coach, is delighted to have secured Liam for the upcoming season commenting;
“In my opinion Liam had a breakout year last season. When I first took over as head coach of Telford Tigers 2, Bart had real discipline issues. We have worked with him to help with those issues and he has been a revelation. A gritty, impact player that intimidates opponents, plays hard every night and knows what it takes to win. I expect another growth in Liam’s development this season which will no doubt help the team moving forward.”
Liam’s own and loan shirt will be available to order now for £75 (Away). Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
