Telford Tigers are delighted to announce the return of young netminder Matty Byrne for the 2024/25 season.
The 18-year-old was part of the double winning Laidler Division team last season playing 23 games and ending with a .936 save percentage. He also achieved 3 shut outs and will step up to senior hockey after finishing his time with the U18 team. Matty will continue to wear the number 31 shirt.
Byrne commented on his signing for the club:
“I’m very happy to be back at Telford for my second year and my first full senior season. I’m looking forward to improving my game and giving the team a chance to win whenever I play. I hope we can build on a very successful year and look to go even further this year. See you in September.”
Andy Watt, Tigers 2 Coach, commented on the signing:
“Matty is a reliable netminder who excels in the details and gives us a chance every night. I’ve worked with Matty for the last 6 seasons in the junior league and it was great to see him seize the starting role for the Tigers 2 team last season. As he steps up to the senior level full time, I know we can count on him.”
