Telford Tigers can confirm that Corey Teece will be returning to the club for the 2023/24 season.
As a youngster, Teece started to play hockey out of Telford Ice Rink and has never looked back since. Teece joined the Telford Tigers 2 squad for the 2021/22 season and will be returning in September for his third consecutive season.
We caught up with Corey ahead of his return to Telford Tigers.
Welcome back to Telford Corey! How does it feel to be back at Telford Tigers?
“It’s always a privilege to be back playing for Telford as it’s my boyhood club and I grew up playing all of my hockey in Telford, I don’t know anything else other than Telford hockey so the love and respect I have for this club is on another level.”
Reflecting on your previous seasons with Telford Tigers, what are some of the standout moments or achievements that you cherish the most?
“For me the standout moments with the club are winning the league and the cup final in my first season with the club and then playoffs in the second season, the moments I cherish the most are just being with the boys and making good memories throughout the years”
Did you learn any lessons from last season that you’ll carry into this one?
“The main thing I’ve learnt from last season is not to be complacent or take things for granted , after being injured towards the last part of the season making me miss playoffs makes you realise that nothing is guaranteed.”
Are you excited about any particular aspect of the upcoming season or any specific opponents you’re looking forward to facing?
“I’m mostly looking forward to just getting back on the ice with all my teammates and working towards what we want to accomplish together as a team, I’m excited to see how the new teams in the league play like Hull and Billingham.”
Are there any particular challenges or obstacles you foresee for yourself or the team this season, and how do you plan to overcome them?
“I think the main challenge for us last season was injuries, we lost a good few key players to injuries and made us have to adjust the lineup, so I think keeping fit and doing what we can to avoid injuries is an important thing to keep on top of.”
Do you have any personal goals you’d like to achieve during this season, apart from team-related objectives?
“The main goal for me this season is to become a better forward than I was last year . After transitioning from a defenseman to a forward last season, the main objective this season for me is to learn as much as I can from the coaches and players to become a better player and fit for the team.”
Lastly, what message would you like to share with our fans ahead of the new season?
“We appreciate all the support you gave us throughout the years and we hope to keep that support running through from last season to this season.”
Tigers 2 Head Coach Dougie Wildman is delighted to have Corey returning commenting:
“We are pleased to welcome Cory back to the team. He has been at Telford since a junior so he knows the systems well. He’s a well liked guy in the locker room and we were very happy with how he played his role last year, moving from forward to defensive duties when asked. This year we’re looking for that consistency and commitment again from him.”
Corey’s own and loan shirt will be available to order now for £75 (Away). Please see the
