Telford Tigers are pleased to announce the return of Dan Mitchell for the 2023/24 season. Mitchell will return for his sixth year with the Tigers, his second as a full time player for Telford Tigers 2.
The 22-year-old known as ‘Mitch’ burst onto the Telford scene with remarkable talents at a young age and has played up the ranks across multiple Telford Tigers rosters. The youngster has been part of several winning teams in Telford including being part of the double winning National side in 2020.
After assisting the team in securing the Laidler League title in 2022 as well as the League Cup and Playoff title in 2023, Mitchell will once again be a significant piece to the puzzle for Tigers 2 this season. Mitchell will be seen playing in his trademark jersey number 88 again this season.
We caught up with Dan ahead of the season to get his comments on re-signing;
Welcome back Dan! You’ll soon be heading into your sixth senior season with Telford Tigers. How does it feel to be back?
“I am very excited to get the season started. We have been very successful the last two seasons and look forward to bringing some more silverware home.”
You played up and down the lineup last season in both forward and defence, where do you see yourself this season?
“As my coach’s know I’ll play wherever is needed (midfield)…”
You have played a part in Tigers 2 biggest seasons recently, winning the 2022 league title and 2023 League Cup and Playoff titles. How did it feel to be part of that winning team?
“We have had a brilliant group of lads every season which makes it a lot better winning as a team.”
Your playing career has seen you ice for both our National and Laidler side. How do you stay motivated and continue to perform at a high level year after year?
“For me personally it’s coming to the rink and just having a laugh with everyone and enjoying myself as much as possible, trying to keep myself in decent shape.”
Reflecting on your previous seasons with Telford Tigers, what are some of the standout moments or achievements that you cherish the most?
“I have been very fortunate to have played for a top Telford side where we have won a lot of trophies over the years, so it’s just been a very enjoyable ride.”
Do you have any goals or aspirations for yourself and the team in this upcoming season?
“Again, I’m just here to have fun, enjoy myself and just try to work towards bringing some silverware back at the end of the season.”
Finally, what message would you like to send to your fans who are eagerly anticipating your return to the ice for the new season?
“We as a team are very grateful with the amount of fans that do come and watch us play. Having that atmosphere makes you want to give it that extra push and give a better performance.”
Telford Tigers 2 Head Coach Scott McKenzie is delighted to have Mitchell back commenting;
“Mitch joined us full time last year after playing half the season with Telford Tigers National then finishing the season with NIHL 2 Tigers. Dan is still very young but has won trophies, played at a really high level and knows what it takes to win trophies. He has moved from forward to defence this season which will allow him to play a solid game but also jump in the rush when the opportunity arises. Mitch plays hard, finishes his checks and is afraid of no one. He is a huge personality within the changing room and someone that holds others accountable.”
Dan’s own and loan shirt is available to order now for £75. Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
