Telford Tigers are thrilled to announce that club legend Jason Silverthorn will take on the role of Player-Coach for Telford Tigers 2 in the upcoming 2025/26 season. This appointment marks a significant step as Tigers 2 prepare for their move to the NIHL North 1 Moralee Division, following their successful application to join the league.
Silverthorn, who has been an integral part of the Tigers organisation since 2014, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the position. As a former captain and assistant coach, his commitment to the club and the sport is unparalleled. His transition into the Player-Coach role underscores the club’s dedication to fostering talent and competitiveness across all levels commenting;
“Having returned to the game full time after a year out following surgery & being Assistant Coach of the club as well as covering for a few injuries I realised how much I missed the game and being in the battle. The commitment at the NIHL level was too much to move forward with as it was difficult to operate a work life balance especially trying to further my Teaching Career.
When Mike & Tommy approached me about Tigers 2 making the move up NIHL North 1, offering the opportunity to play again at a good level while also continuing to help develop our younger players with less of a time commitment, I had to say yes!
The game has given me so much and to be able to continue to give back is something I take seriously. Also having the ability to gain more experience coaching while working along side Tommy along with the rest of the Tigers coaching team is a great opportunity.”
