Louie Newell Returns!

Telford Tigers are delighted to announce the return of Louie Newell for the 2025/26 season. The 21 year old is back for his third season with the club and is expected to return to his original role as a forward after playing in defense last season. Despite playing a defensive role, Newell chipped in with 25 points last season.

Louie commented on his return, “I’m excited to be back for another year. I feel like we have so much more to give as a team after a difficult year last season and I want to come back and show that Telford can be right there with the best in the league. I hope to see all the fans back in the building this coming season and I can’t wait to get back out there.”

Tom Watkins, Head Coach and General Manager, commented on the signing of Newell.

“Louie is an underrated asset and probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves with his ability to move between playing forward and defense. His versatility is huge and is more than happy to support the team in whatever you ask of him which I respect and admire.

Last season he predominantly played defense where he stepped into a top 4 role with his poise and vision he was probably our best puck moving defender which  helped our transition from defense to offence and was also accomplished on the second power play unit running that from the top which showed in his numbers. This season the focus is to play him as a forward once again and I believe he has the offensive instincts and skills to score where I would expect him to be another player that can score 10 to 15 goals but we can trust him to be smart defensively and make good decisions.”
