Telford Tigers are pleased to announce the return of Danny Rose for the 2023/24 season. Rose will return for his eleventh year with the Tigers and will wear the number 12 shirt. Rose proved to be a key defender during the team’s last campaign and took on a leadership role within the team. Danny was jointly awarded the club’s Player’s Player of the year at the recent presentation evening.
This is your eleventh year at Telford Tigers. What made you re-sign again for the forthcoming season?
“With it being my eleventh year at the Tigers it was always an easy decision for me to re-sign. Telford is a great club with the best coaching staff and fans. I love it here and couldn’t see myself playing anywhere else.”
How frustrating was last season after so much recent success?
“For me personally, last season was very frustrating after winning trophies in recent years. We fell short to lots of injuries and results just didn’t go the way we wanted. We just never seemed to get the puck bounce our way and when things started to go wrong it was hard to break the cycle.”
With last year being a bit of a disappointment, what do you think will change for next season?
A) “Well with an extra import now in the league I think all teams will improve, but for us I think we just need to turn up every game and play as hard as we did for the playoffs. We know there is a lot of talent in the room so there is no reason why we can’t improve.”
You had a great paring with Thomas McKinnon in the 2021/22 season. How much did losing him impact on the defensive side of the team last season?
“Yeah me and Tom McKinnon had a great pairing and I think after losing him we lost a little bit of grit and toughness at the back end, don’t get me wrong all the boys played hard every night and would hold their own but Tommy was a gamer all the time and gave everything every shift.”
What are your goals / ambitions for the 2023/24 season?
“My goals/ambitions for the 23/24 season are to win the league, cup and playoffs! Why not? We always start the season aiming to win trophies.”
A lot of the fans felt that with the absence of some key players last year you stepped up into a leadership role. Are you enjoying that side of your game?
“Yeah I mean it’s something different from what I’m used too that’s for sure but I would definitely say I am enjoying that side of my game. I am one of the senior players so with some many injuries last season I felt I needed to step up as a leader and play big minutes.”
Do you have a message for the fans ahead of the season?
“As always, thank you for your continued support and we will see you in September when we hope to have a strong roster that can compete for all the silverware.”
Tom Watkins, Head Coach, said, “Danny Rose has developed into one of the league’s top D-men playing a key role for us in all areas. He is a solid competitor, plays hard, won’t back down from a challenge and can play a physical game when required. He is very dependable, someone we lean on heavily, who is a quiet leader for the group with his ability and experience. He really is a key asset.”
Danny’s own and loan shirts are available to order now for £150 each (Home and Away). Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
