Telford Tigers are pleased to announce that the club has retained Ryan Lewis as he signs up to sit between the pipes for Tigers 2 this season.
The 22-year-old netminder makes the move to the Laidler roster after backing up Brad Day for the National team. Lewis also came through the Telford junior set-up and was a netminder for the Under 18’s team that won the National Championships back in 2018.
We caught up with Ryan ahead of the new season
This will be your first season back with the Tigers 2 side after a spell with the first team, what made you decide to step down from the National league?
“I enjoyed my time with Tigers 1 but I was looking for more game time. I spoke to Tom earlier in the summer and we decided this was the best for my development for me to make the move to Tigers 2 to gain playing time.”
What are your thoughts on the team’s performance the past two seasons and how do you feel heading into this season?
“Tigers 2 have been incredible the last 2 seasons and we should be up there challenging for every trophy again this season.”
How have you been preparing for this new challenge during the offseason?
“I have been doing strength and conditioning training all summer as well as summer hockey to prepare me for the new season,”
Do you have any goals or aspirations for yourself and the team in this upcoming season?
“I hope to get regular ice time, play solid and help the team win trophies.”
Are there any particular games or opponents you’re looking forward to facing this season?
“Not anyone in particular. With 2 new teams coming into the league it will be interesting to see how strong they are and hopefully we can live up to previous seasons.”
And finally, is there anything you would like to say to our fans ahead of the season?
“As a club we are always grateful for the fantastic support we receive so let’s keep this up next season!”
Telford Tigers Coach Dougie Wildman is delighted to have Ryan on board commenting;
“It’s great to welcome back to a familiar face of Ryan between the pipes. Ryan iced for Tigers 2 a good few years ago whilst still very young and has since had the opportunity to back up for the Tigers national team. He has gained great experience and improved during his spell with the National side and we think with this great opportunity he will grab it with both hands (or just his glove)… We’re looking for a more mature and reliable performance this season from him and to keep the door shut to all for the whole season, stamping his mark on this league.”
Ryan’s own and loan shirt is available to order now for £75 (Away). Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
In the 2023/24 season, Tigers are again offering individual player sponsorship at £500.
