Last weekend Telford Tigers 2 managed to bag some recovery time with no scheduled games to play until the second weekend of February. On the 17th January, Tigers fans were treated to a thrilling 4-3 victory over current league leaders Widnes Wild which pushed the Tigers up to second place in the league table.
After that crucial win, the table slowly started to shape up for the top few teams with only 2 points separating second place Tigers from now fourth place Hull Jets. A win for Bradford Bulldogs on Saturday evening against the Coventry Blaze NIHL put the West Yorkshire side only one place and one point behind Tigers 2.
After what has been an interesting start to the season, Tigers 2 player coach, Callum Bowley has seen a difference in the confidence and performance of his Laidler side in recent games and is looking to develop on it further as they work towards the end of the season…
“We are now at that part of the season where it’s all about consistency and making sure we pick up wins to solidify our playoff spot. Over the last three games we’ve started to play at the level I know we are capable of, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. The confidence is high at the moment and there are a lot of guys who have raised their performances which is great to see. Our commitment to block shots, reduce turnovers and be much smarter on and off the puck has made a huge difference to our play.
Looking ahead, we definitely have a few tough months. Our next game is against Coventry Blaze NIHL this Saturday and we know they’re a team that is very capable of picking up points against anyone in our league, as they play with a lot of energy and play to their strengths very well. They’ll provide us with a tough test after a well deserved weekend off. Then the following day, we head up to Hull for another big game, so we’ve got an interesting few months ahead.”
