Telford Tigers 2 Welcome Back Netminder Matty Byrne

Telford Tigers 2 are delighted to announce the return of goaltender Matty Byrne for the 2025/26 NIHL North Division 1 season.

The 19-year-old was a crucial part of last season’s historic treble-winning Laidler Division side, featuring in 25 games and finishing the campaign with an impressive .929 save percentage. Byrne’s consistency between the pipes played a key role in the team’s success, and his return provides strength and stability as Tigers 2 step up into the Moralee Division this year.

Matty commented on his return to Telford;

“I’m really excited to be re-signing with Tigers 2 for my third season. It’s been a great few years and with the team moving up a division, I’m looking forward to the new challenges ahead. I hope to keep improving my game and giving the team a chance to win whenever I play. I can’t wait to build on what we’ve achieved together. See you in September.”

Telford Tigers 2 coach Jason Silverthorn, commented on the return of Byrne:

“Matty was one of my first calls this summer to bring back, he showed last year that he needed to play at the next level and with us moving up as a group, it will give him the opportunity to continue to grow and develop while being challenged but some quality shooters and teams around the league.

As our starter last year during the treble winning season, he deserved the starting job for this season, but he will need to make sure he comes in with the right attitude and continues to work hard on his game with others here to push him. He has a great attitude and has shown to be very coachable and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him as he develops.”
