Saturday will see the St Francis Group Community Stand full of supporters as part of Walsall FC Community Programme’s School Partners initiative.
Almost 40 schools have participated in the ticket scheme and around 1000 extra supporters will be present at the game against Gillingham this Saturday.
Also joining us for the game will be local Ice Hockey team, Telford Tigers. The NIHL team play out of Telford Ice Rink and are the current English Premier League Champions.
Head Coach and General Manager, Tom Watkins, will be at the game promoting the sport and handing out free tickets to lucky Walsall fans. He will be joined by staff from the club and “Roary”, the Tigers Mascot, will be on hand with the Saddlers own Swifty to meet young supporters.
The visit from the Tigers has been organised by Community Director, Adam Davy.
He said: “Telford Tigers have agreed to come and join us for the School Partners game and will have 100 free tickets to hand out to Saddlers fans.
“It will be great for our supporters to have some fun with the mascots, meet Tom and have the added bonus of possibly getting their hands on tickets to a Tigers game.
“I have been to watch the Tigers play over the last couple of seasons and really enjoy going to matches. It is a fun evening out and my son, Keegan, loves to go along with me. All in all it will be another great School Partners day and I hope everyone enjoys the occasion and meeting the guys from Telford Tigers.”
Tom Watkins added: “Ice Hockey is a fast paced and exciting sport and we are always looking for opportunities to introduce the game to new fans. Adam kindly offered us the chance to come along to the match this Saturday and meet the Walsall fans.
Our home games fall on Sunday evenings and Face Off is at 6pm. Sunday games are perfect for us as they do not conflict with the local football and is a great way for families to end their weekend. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly club, much like Walsall FC, and I hope that families who receive the free tickets can come along and enjoy an evening at the rink with us.
