Tigers 2 With Four Point Opening Weekend

Hexagon Telford Tigers 2 travelled to Cheshire to take on the Altrincham Aces fresh from an opening day victory over Nottingham Lions.

The team continued the good form they showed in their first game with a three goal first period after spending most of the period attacking the Aces’ goal. Callum Griffin opened the scoring in the tenth minute with a shot through a screen and added a second a minute later after a great stretch pass from Connor Keyes sent him clear on goal. Griffin scored with a neat backhand forehand move and shot. Before the period ended Tigers 2 had a third goal. Filip Supa with a wrist shot from the slot giving the Altrincham net minder no chance.

The second period saw Tigers 2 continue their dominance and add a further four goals!

Griffin completed his hat trick early on with a rebound from Ryan Leese’s shot and was closely followed by a shot from Ben Washburn which beat the net minder low down.

Liam Bartholomew netted a sixth goal for Tigers 2 with a tap in off a Karol Jets pass after Jets had pounced on a defensive mistake.

Washburn rounded off the period with a seventh goal shooting high into the top corner of the net.

Early in the third period, Altrincham got on the scoresheet with a goal from a breakdown in play in the Telford defensive zone.

Tigers 2 hit back five minutes later with a terrific finish from Charlie Hammerton, who sent a wrist shot into the top left hand corner of the Aces’ goal.

The game became very scrappy with both teams taking trips to the penalty box. Altrincham managed a second goal whilst on a 5-on-3 power play when James Callagher and Dan Mitchell were serving penalties.

The final say on the scoreboard went to Telford in the last couple of minutes with Jets scoring on the break away with a neat move to send the Aces net minder the wrong way and then sending a wrist shot to his right to seal the game.

Final Score: Altrincham Aces 2 Hexagon Telford Tigers (Laidler) 9.
