Telford Tigers are delighted to announce the signing of promising netminder Danny McGowan ahead of the 2026/27 NIHL National season.
The 19-year-old arrives in Shropshire after an impressive spell with Paisley Pirates, where he established himself as one of the Scottish National League’s brightest young netminders. Across three seasons with the Pirates, McGowan made over 50 senior appearances while recording a 2.77 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. He also earned international recognition by representing Great Britain at the inaugural IIHF 3-on-3 World Championships.
Head Coach Tom Watkins is pleased to add another talented young player to the Tigers roster.
“Danny is a fresh face to both our team and the league. He comes highly recommended by a number of coaches we’ve spoken to, most notably Great Britain’s Head Goaltending Coach, Euan King. Danny had a strong season in Paisley, posting some impressive numbers, and also represented Great Britain at the inaugural 3-on-3 tournament where he received excellent reports.
He’s a young goalie with plenty of potential, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development here in Telford.”
McGowan is excited to take the next step in his career and believes Telford is the perfect place to continue his development.
“I’m excited to get started here at Telford! I’ve been waiting for an opportunity at NIHL National level for the last two years and when Tom reached out, it was a no-brainer. It’s easy to understand why he has such a great reputation for developing young players, as he’s not afraid to give us opportunities and it’s up to us to take them.
Everyone in Telford, from the staff to the players and the fans, has a real passion for the Tigers. I can’t wait to get down there and get going!”
Telford Tigers would like to welcome Danny to the club and wishes him every success in orange and black.
Details regarding Own & Loan jerseys will be announced soon.
