Telford Tigers 1 played the second of back to back friendlies against NIHL rivals Billingham Stars on Sunday evening. The first game, away at Billingham the previous night, saw the Tigers 1 secure an 8-1 victory.

Sunday’s game started in a similar manner as the previous night with Tigers and Stars
battling hard from the first whistle.

Tigers took advantage of the first power play of the evening on six minutes when the Stars Callum Patterson was called for tripping. Joe Miller scored after a great passing move from Ricky Plant and Jonathan Weaver enabled Miller to slam a shot into the bottom left corner.

Twelve minutes in, Tigers increased their advantage when captain Jason Silverthorn scored on the rebound from Corey Goodison’s blue line shot. Tigers went close to getting a third goal on thirteen minutes when Plant hit the post and moments later Weaver hit the bar.

Tigers ended the period, firmly in the ascendancy when Silverthorn scored Tigers’ third and his second of the night after exchanging passes with Miller and Weaver to score from inside the hash marks.

In the second period the Tigers continued to dominate and scored their fourth just a minute into the period, when Miller tipped a Weaver pass into the net from in front of goal. The fifth goal arrived 10 minutes later when Dale White scored a slap shot from the left circle. Billingham then took a number of penalties and Tigers took full advantage when Miller scored his hat trick on the power play, a minute from the end of the period after good work by Plant and Macauley Halford gave the Tigers a 6-0 advantage heading into the final period.

The third period was goalless with Tigers taking a couple of penalties and getting some practice short handed. The game ended with Dennis Bell making two good saves on the penalty kill to complete his shut out.

Final Score Telford Tigers 6 Billingham Stars 0.

Man of the match – Joe Miller.
