Watkins Junior Returns for Tigers.

Watkins Junior Returns. Telford Tigers are pleased to announce the return of Sam Watkins for the 2021/22 season. Watkins, son of Head Coach Tom Watkins, will continue to wear the number 25 shirt. Sam has come through the junior team setup at the club and scored his first senior goal during the club’s double-winning season in 2019/20.

Watkins stated, “I really enjoyed the step up to senior hockey and to be part of a double-winning team was amazing, I couldn’t have asked for a better first season. We enjoyed some great nights as a team and were always really well supported by the fans.   I want to keep improving to help the team and I will be working very hard to make sure that when we do get back on the ice, I’m ready to compete to the best of my ability.”

Tom Watkins, Head Coach and General Manager, said, “I think Sam made a very promising impact when he joined the team In January and played at a very high level on his debut season. He showed a lot of maturity and poise on the puck in pressured situations, making good decisions to maintain puck possession. He’s capable in the face-off circle and will only improve when he fully matures and adds more strength naturally, but has good timing and hand-eye coordination to aid in winning his fair share. His defensive game is very good and is up there as one of the best shot blockers in the team despite his age, he’s got a very good technique and ability to make sure he is in the shot lane. He’s still got a lot of learning ahead of him but I think he has a great group of experienced players to watch and learn from every day that pushes him to keep improving.”

Telford Tigers would like to thank Telford Copper Cylinders for their continued support and agreeing to return as Sam’s individual sponsor.

Sam’s own and loan shirts are available to order now for £100 each (Home and Away). Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.
