Telford Tigers are delighted to announce the return of defender Jonathan Weaver for the 2023/24 season.
The now 46-year old will be returning to Telford Telford for his ninth season. The defender made a return to Telford last season but his return to the ice was delayed after the GB star suffered an injury and then took the plunge to seek a career away from the ice. After weeks of intense a training programme, Weaver was offered a full time position with the Leicestershire Fire Service.
Weaver’s decision to return to Telford Tigers is met with great enthusiasm from both fans and teammates alike. His return adds a layer of depth to the Tigers’ defensive line and injects a sense of veteran presence into the dressing room. Despite his new commitments with the fire service, Weaver remains dedicated to contributing his best to the team.
Recognising the demands of his new full-time role, Weaver and the Tigers’ management have come to an agreement that allows him to play on a game-by-game basis when his shift patterns allow.
We caught up with Head Coach Tom Watkins following the National Team’s pre-season training camp. Listen to what he had to say here.
Telford Tigers look forward to seeing Jonathan Weaver back in a Tigers jersey for the coming season whilst supporting him in his new transitional role.
