Young Watt Returns: Another Tigers Season For Kyle Watt

Telford Tigers are excited to announce that youngster Kyle Watt will be returning to the Tigers 2 roster for the 2023/24 season.

Kyle made his senior Tigers debut last season whilst also committing his time to the U18s side, Mercians U18s. Last season, Watt bagged an impressive 37 points in 14 games for his U18 side and will be looking to build on that this season.

Whilst the 16-year old forward has only just started his hockey career, he has already made a lasting impression in the senior set up, committing his time to both junior and senior hockey in Telford.

We caught up with Kyle ahead of him re-signing for Tigers 2 this season

You’ll soon be heading into your second senior season with Telford Tigers. How does it feel to be back?

“It feels great to be back in the team for another season. I learnt lots from the guys last year and I feel ready to implement that into my game this year.”

You’re still very young in your hockey career. How have you found the step up from the junior league to NIHL?

“I have found the step up great for my development and have brought that into my game.”

Last season you were part of the double title winning side. How did it feel to be part of that success?

“It was a great feeling to win 2 titles last season, it’s the first of many to come. It was a great  feeling to win with a good group of guys.”

Are there any particular parts of your game that you are looking to improve on heading into the season?

“I am looking to improve my speed as a player, I will focus on working on myself within the gym to achieve this as well as scoring more goals and getting more assists.”

For those fans that haven’t seen you play before, how would you describe your game?

“I would say I play as a playmaker, where I can find a pass when teammates are available as well as I am a smart player”

Do you have any pre-game rituals or routines that help you get into the right mindset before a game?

“Music, I will listen to any lil baby song which will get me into the right mindset before a big game.”

Are there any specific teams or opponents you see as the biggest challenges this year?

“Sutton are looking like a good team to play this season, we had a few good games with them last season especially in the playoffs.”

Lastly, what message would you like to share with our fans and supporters as you begin the new season?

“This is a big season for us, as there are few new teams within our league and we don’t know much about them yet. What I can say is the team will always compete and give 100%. Personally I am setting myself a number of targets to help the team.”

Telford Tigers 2 Coach Dougie Wildman is delighted to welcome back Kyle to Tigers 2 commenting:

“Kyle had a great season with us last year even though he missed half of it with injury. He is another year older and is maturing into a good hockey player. He’s learning his craft from some of the experienced lads we are fortunate to have and he soaks it all up like a sponge. I predict Kyle will improve again this year as he’s fit and ready to go and take his chances at senior hockey when he gets them.”

Kyle’s own and loan shirt is available to order now for £75. Please see the Tigers’ Online Shop for details.

In the 2023/24 season, Tigers are again offering individual player sponsorship at £500.
